Livable Frederick is the County’s vision for a vibrant and unique community where people live, work, and thrive while enjoying a strong sense of place and belonging. Part of achieving that vision is the County’s commitment to respond to climate change.

Frederick County’s climate goals (adopted by the County Council in July 2020) are to reduce county-wide greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions 50 percent from 2010 levels by 2030 and 100 percent no later than 2050. In 2025, the County adopted the Frederick Community-Wide Climate and Energy Action Plan to create accountability to achieve their emissions reduction targets. Components of the plan include GHG inventories, climate risk and vulnerability assessment, public engagement, electric vehicle strategies, resilience and adaptation strategies, GHG mitigation strategy, and code and ordinance recommendations.
