We are a group of local government partners committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and creating more resilient communities across the District of Columbia, suburban Maryland, and Northern Virginia, or DMV.
Collectively, we’ve made major strides. Installing solar power systems. Investing in energy efficiency. Expanding the use of electric vehicles. Through the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG), we’ve been setting regional goals and tracking progress, sharing best practices, and jointly advocating forward-looking national policies. Our region has been honored for these efforts–named a White House Climate Action Champion in 2014 and a U.S. Metro Scale Climate Leader by the Global Covenant of Mayors (GCoM) in 2019. And while we are proud of the early results of our collaboration, we realize that much more work—and opportunity—lies ahead.
We created this website as a platform to better educate area leaders and residents about local, regional, national, and international efforts underway to fight climate change and spur further action. We will also use this space to highlight climate accomplishments and connect people to valuable resources.
Together, we will keep moving forward to meet our ambitious and essential goals.
