The City of Bowie, Maryland set a Citywide greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions target of 50 percent reduction from 2015 levels by 2030. The City’s Climate Action Plan focuses on actions that can be taken from 2020-2025, concentrating on four sectors: city government, residential, commercial, and intergovernmental.

To support GHG reduction, the City of Bowie is working to improve energy efficiency in City facilities, install solar at government facilities, purchase efficient vehicles for its fleet, expand tree canopy, and develop policies for green purchasing, sustainable consumption and zero waste.

To engage the public and promote community action the City of Bowie has an energy audit program, light bulb exchange initiative, promotes community solar and alternative transportation, and much more. This work is accomplished with the support of the City’s Environmental Advisory Committee, Green Team Executive Committee, and Staff Sustainability Team.
